Welcome to Focus 1st Academy

We believe that parental support is needed for the development of every child, therefore we want parents to be as well informed as the students. Here you will be able to find thorough information regarding our policies, work experience and activities.

Covid -19

Covid-19 has been a real test for us all. Focus 1st Academy has worked throughout the whole pandemic ensuring that students continued to study and maintain a healthy mindset. Of course, all safety measures were taken to protect both students and staff and continue to follow any future government guidance

Missing Children leaflet for parents

New for Academic Year 2022-2023!

In the new academic year 2022/23, we aim to deliver meaningful programmes to assist young people in a nurturing environment with incorporated motivational and educational studies; this is aimed at inspiring and ensuring maximum outcomes and potential is reached for each individual student.

For 2022/2023, we have organised workshops to include the following areas which we feel will benefit the students,

Mortgages

Pensions

Tax, VAT & NI

Stocks & Shares

Careers advice/College applications

Racial Justice

Incorporated within this we will be supporting our students to setup bank accounts to help them prepare for adulthood, alongside CV’s and college applications toward their final year.

We revived our Music lessons to enable students to write their own lyrics and produce their own music with well-known artists and we have now incorporated a GCSE qualification into that as we move forward into the new academic year, 2020/2021. In other subjects the students work towards a GCSE in Physical Education (PE) whereby students have the opportunity to participate in our newly formed #BuildingBridges tournament, with police and other officials as well as students from other provisions which, in-turn underpins team work and breaks down barriers between officials and students.  Two years ago we also included Combined Science GCSE to our provision as well as our longstanding GCSE in Maths & English Language & Literature; along with the ongoing ICDL in ICT we will also offer ICT functional skills and Functional Skills in Maths & English.

We will also be introducing a beauty course to our provision. This is aimed predominantly at students that do not want to participate in GCSE Music and/or PE.  The students will have the opportunity to work towards a tailor made recognised qualification in this subject with ABC awarding body, that can either be used to start and further their career in the industry or, albeit for just personal use.

Work Experience

Work Placements are a priority for us at Focus 1st Academy as we want our students to develop their skills to the fullest. Once the student has informed us about his/her interests and competences, we will aim to find a work experience that suits his/her expectations. Ideally, students will be attending their placements for 2 days a week during school hours.

Just inform us of which activities and subjects you enjoy the most and we will do our best to find a work experience that suits your skills

Activities

Focus 1st Academy provides our students with different extracurricular activities throughout the school year in order to enrich their experience at our Academy. The most common activities include trips to Alexandra Palace Ice Rink, picnic in the park or bowling.

We also work closely with the London Fire Brigade, where the students can take part in a 4 day Life course which has proved very successful with previous students.

Complaints

In the academy year 2021-2022 we received no complaints.

Progression

At Focus 1st Academy we aim to prepare our students to be able to choose the best college or sixth form for them, when they continue on their education journey after year 11.

In the Academy year 2021-2022;

88% of Year 11 went on to Further Education with other providers

0% of our students went on to apprenticeships

0% of our students went on directly to employment

12% of year 11 – destination unknown
